NELL will be entering two teams in the Williamsport Little League Tournament this year. One team will be for Little League age 9/10 players, and the other will be for Little League age 11/12 players. The U10 team will be coached by Eddie Murray and the U12 team will be coached by John Taft.
Players will be selected by a combination of manager and commissioner nominations and evaluations. Players must have played in at least 60% of their Spring 2012 games and be local residents (no waivers) to be eligible. A tryout for U12 will also be held on June 16 at 10AM at Jay Gordon field.
The tournament begins around July 1st with pool play, where each team will typically play three games. Winners will continue to progress, ultimately concluding at the World Championship game in Williamsport, PA.
Playing on the Williamsport team does require a significant commitment from the players and parents; there will be two weeks of intense practices beginning on or after June 15, 2012. Games will initially take place in the local area, typically in Newton, West Roxbury, Watertown or Wellesley.
We will be holding several free clinics where interested players can learn more about the Williamsport tournament, be exposed to advanced baseball, and receive additional instruction. These clinics are open to all eligible players.
The next U12 clinic will be on Saturday, May 19 at 10AM at Jay Gordon Field.
