Really good to see the team at the first game- there was a lot of great hustling, batting and pitching. When the team all paid attention and pulled in the same direction, it really made a huge difference and an amazing comeback!
Although there were many highlights, there has to be some discussion about sportsmanship and behavior. With all the social changes during covid, getting back together for a social sport may be an adjustment. Let’s try to remember the “Before times”- here are some pointers to get us all there:
1. As a reminder, this is NOT a dropoff activity. One parent must attend with a child (At least until there is some improvement with numbers 2 and 3), and the expectation is - if you see something say something. You are responsible for your child and their behavior. Players need to remember the lineup, warm-up when it’s their turn, and remember what their fielding positions are. There is a lot to keep track of- we coaches appreciate your help!
2. Attitude- this is a TEAM sport- we are all in this together! Players need to maintain a positive attitude throughout the games and practices.
There were a LOT of negative attitudes and comments today which really brought down the team and were distracting.
Please check-in with your kids and go over expectations with them. We ask that kids come to baseball with a positive attitude- negative comments will not be tolerated.
3. Safety and listening: there is a lot going on at baseball and safety is our top priority. To keep everyone safe- we need all players to listen to coaches and to the baseball staff.
4. Practice and skills: There is a range of skills and experience on the team. We are so glad to have all of the players- we are trying to lineup some extra practices through the league for players who may want extra practice or who may be newer to baseball.
We are looking forward to a great season! We appreciate your partnership- Go (White) Sox!
